In 2019, the annual passenger throughput of Shenzhen Airport reached 52.932 million passengers; the annual cargo throughput reached 1.283 million tons, and the scale of both passenger and cargo business became Top 30 in the world, with a total of 370,200 guaranteed flight take-offs and landings. The number of flights will continue to increase in the future, and the frequency of apron use will also continue to increase, putting forward higher requirements for the cleaning of apron.

According to Project Manager Yang Shengge: “Apron cleaning robots effectively relieve the pressure of Shenzhen Airport in cleaning apron, and greatly improve the control level of apron FOD.” An apron cleaning robot combines several functions such as autonomous positioning, cleaning task planning and intelligent obstacle avoidance, with a power duration of up to 8 hours, an ideal cleaning efficiency of no less than 3,000 square meters/h and a continuous operating time of no less than 3 hours. Integrating LIDAR, camera, GNSS module, IMU module and other sensors, the apron cleaning robot, supporting centimeter-level high-precision navigation, can automatically identify and avoid obstacles to achieve intelligent cleaning by automatic steering and collision avoidance. In addition, while achieving a highly intelligent driverless function, the apron cleaning robot can also switch between driverless and manned modes to provide double protection for apron cleaning, considering the complexity of apron cleaning.
